Newborn Safety
Ashley Derr Photography is more than a quality product for an incredible cost, we take careful measures to ensure your child/children’s safety at all times. At ADP every newborn session requires an assistant set of hands to sit by your baby to help in achieving the image wanted under the safest conditions. Never assume a pose is a one snap picture; a lot of times they are composites of two or three “spotted” images put together to create a final image. This allows us to get the image we want safely. When you see images of a baby’s head propped up, know that a spotter’s hands are never taken off of the baby!
Please also keep in mind that babies are different; some babies just will not go into a particular pose that we want and that’s OKAY! I will never force a baby into an uncomfortable pose just to land a shot. Booking with a photographer who knows how to capture your new baby’s beauty safely should always take precedence over cost. I hope all mother’s take this into consideration; a couple hundred dollars saved is NOT worth your child’s health. If you are looking for a fun portrait experience with great quality then Ashley Derr Photography is the place to be!
About Your Newborn Session
ADP captures newborns in their first ten days of life. This time is so special and unique; their little fingers and toes, the way they curl up, and the sweet facial expressions that make you stare in amazement. Let me capture these moments for you! Newborn photography is not about 4X6 images, but rather capturing those awe-inspiring memories that you will cherish forever.
I have a very comfortable home studio filled with endless possibilities of props to suit your taste (did I mention an over-sized couch and lots of coffee? LOTS of coffee…). For those parents who cannot travel to my studio, I will come to you with a slew of blankets, baskets, and accessories! ADP offers a custom memorable product worth the investment and I look forward to sharing these memories with you.
There have been more than a number of times that I remind parents how LONG newborn sessions can take, and have them leave laughing saying, ” I will never look at a newborn image the same again, that is work!” It IS work, and it takes a special kind of patience and skill, but most importantly, TIME. Not all newborns are the same, some will curl right up and sleep away the session, and others will take a little more love and coaxing. Newborn sessions can take two to three hours (average is two), so please remember to pack anything that you and baby will need for that time. I recommend (yes, even for you nursing mothers) bringing a pacifier; it really makes a difference in calming your baby down. We move them around so often while posing that they automatically think, “OH, it’s time to eat again!” I also ask that you bring extra formula or milk for your baby for the instances where a pacifier just is not doing the trick.
I love capturing the bonding between siblings, they are probably some of my favorite images! However, older siblings require a good bit of attention as well so I prefer to do sibling and family shots first and focus on the newest addition after. If possible, please arrange for someone to pick up older siblings after they complete their “modeling”. There are many parks, malls, and restaurants around my studio for little adventures.
